What is VIN code?

Every Fiat vehicle produced has its own unique VIN code, which is a 17-digit code made up of numbers and letters. The VIN code is an important source of information about every Fiat car, as the car is registered under it in all important databases:

  • Fiat manufacturer databases
  • Databases of dealers of new and used Fiat cars
  • Fiat car service databases
  • State databases
  • Police databases
  • Databases of insurance companies
  • Databases of private automotive companies

🔢 What does the Fiat VIN code consist of?Fiat VIN decoder

1. The first three characters of the VIN
The first three characters are the manufacturer's WMI code. For Fiats, you will most often encounter the WMI code ZFA.

2. The fourth to ninth character of the VIN
The next six characters are the Fiat descriptive code, which encodes general information about the car such as model, engine type, production series and more.

3. Tenth to seventeenth character of VIN
The last eight characters are the unique Fiat production code, the last four characters of which must always be numbers.

The VIN code of Fiat vehicles must never contain the letters Q, I and O to avoid confusion with the numbers 9, 1 and 0.

  • Hidden past damages - often total losses
  • Falsifying the origin of the vehicle
  • Ilegal changes in vehicle documents - change of year of manufacture
  • Stolen vehicles

Fortunately, fraud can usually be detected in time thanks to an online vehicle history check.
