What is a Jeep VIN Code?

Every Jeep produced has its own unique VIN code, which is a 17-digit code made up of numbers and letters. The VIN code is an important source of information about every Jeep car, because under it the car is registered in all important databases:

• Jeep manufacturer databases
• Databases of new and used Jeep dealers
• Jeep service center databases
• State databases
• Police databases
• Databases of insurance companies
• Databases of private automotive companies

🔢 What does the VIN code consist of?

1. The first three characters of the VIN
The first three characters are the manufacturer's WMI code. Jeep uses the WMI codes 1C4, 1J8, and 1J4 for its vehicles.

2. The fourth to ninth character of the VIN
The next six characters are the Jeep descriptive code, which encodes general information about the vehicle such as model, body type, engine type, production series, and more.

3. Tenth to seventeenth character of VIN
The last eight characters are the unique Jeep production code, the last four characters of which must always be numbers.

Jeep VINs must never contain the letters Q, I, and O to avoid confusion with the numbers 9, 1, and 0.
