What is a VIN?

Every Mini vehicle produced has its own unique VIN code, which is a 17-digit code made up of numbers and letters. The VIN code is an important source of information about each Mini, as the vehicle is registered under it in all important databases:

🔢 What does the VIN code of Mini vehicles consist of?

1. The first three characters of the VIN
The first three characters are the manufacturer's WMI code. Mini uses the WMI code WMW for its WMI vehicles.

2. The fourth to ninth character of the VIN
The next six characters are the descriptive Mini code, in which general information about the car is encoded, such as model, body type, engine type, production series, etc.

3. The tenth to seventeenth character of the VIN
The last eight characters are the unique Mini production code. The last four characters must be numbers!

Mini VINs must never contain the letters Q, I and O to avoid confusion with the numbers 9, 1 and 0.
