List of Škoda warning lights

In this article, you will find the most common and most important warning lights that can appear in Škoda vehicles and are common to most models (Skoda Rapid, Skoda Kushaq, Skoda Octavia, Skoda Superb, Skoda Fabia, Skoda Kodiaq, Skoda Karoq, Skoda Kamiq etc.).

You can always find a complete list of indicators for your specific vehicle in its user manual.

Low brake fluid pressure

A red warning light with an exclamation point indicates a serious malfunction of the brake system. Most often, it is a low level of brake fluid. The same indicator light with the letter "P" instead of an exclamation point indicates that the handbrake is applied.

❌ Do not drive the vehicle!

Solution: Check the brake fluid level and top up if necessary. If it still doesn't go out, have the vehicle towed to a garage.

Engine coolant overheating

A red coolant warning light means the engine is overheating. The cause is usually a lack of coolant. Its level can only be checked after the engine has cooled down thoroughly (the liquid is usually over 100 °C and can burn you when unscrewing the tank cap).

❌ Do not drive the vehicle!

Solution: After the engine cools down, add coolant and check for any puddles under the engine indicating a coolant leak. If the warning light does not go out after topping up the fluid, have the vehicle towed to a service center.

Low engine oil pressure

A red oil warning light indicates low engine oil pressure. In other words, it means that there is not enough oil in the engine and further driving could damage the engine irreversibly.

❌ Do not drive the vehicle!

Solution: Stop the vehicle ideally on a flat surface and switch off the engine as soon as possible. After turning off the engine, wait a while, then check the engine oil level and, if necessary, top it up. If the warning light does not go out after topping up the oil, take the vehicle to a service center.

Charging malfunction

This red warning light indicates a fault in the charging of the vehicle - very often due to a broken alternator. The vehicle cannot produce enough energy for the next drive.

❌ Do not drive the vehicle!!

Solution: The best solution is to tow the car directly to the service center. If other red lights are on together with the warning light, definitely do not start the engine.

Low engine oil level

⚠️ Stop in a safe place as soon as possible.

Solution: Stop the car in a safe place, check the inflation of all tires and inflate them if necessary. The light should go out by itself after filling. If all tires are inflated and the warning light is still on, try resetting the tire pressure measurement system.

Solution: Check the other indicator lights, possibly also the warning messages on the on-board computer.

⚠️ When choosing a used Škoda vehicle, check not only the warning lights

Warning lights can help you when choosing used cars, but definitely don't rely on them. With the help of diagnostics, it is possible to turn it off, and moreover, they only tell about the current state of the vehicle, not about its past.

Fortunately, it is very easy to check the history of a vehicle online in the largest database of used vehicle records in Europe at Cebia.com. Mileage, vehicle damage, service records, photos from the past and much more can be checked.

Check the Škoda VIN decoder article and find out what can be checked and found out about the history of any Škoda.
